R+F Sunless Tanner Application Instructions:
1. Take a shower and use ENHANCEMENTS Body Micro-Dermabrasion (sold separately) to exfoliate every part of your body where you will be applying our ESSENTIALS Foaming Sunless Tan. (Note: If you shave your legs, do so before applying ESSENTIALS Foaming Sunless Tan … shaving after you apply will reduce the life of your glow.)
*If you do not have our Microdermabrasion paste on hand, exfoliate your skin the best you can using a loofa.
2. Next, use ESSENTIALS Daily Moisturizer on your knees, elbows, toes, toenails, heels, and ankles to prevent ESSENTIALS Foaming Sunless Tan from concentrating in those areas where skin is thickest.
3. To avoid orange palms, use protective gloves or simply remember to wash your hands immediately after applying ESSENTIALS Foaming Sunless Tan.
4 If you do make a mistake, acetone or nail polish remover can be used to remove any unintended color.
5. Allow ESSENTIALS Foaming Sunless Tan to dry to the touch before getting dressed. If you can wait 15 minutes or so before getting dressed, that’s even better.
6. Avoid wearing tight fitting clothing over your Sunless Tan for 3-4 hours after application to allow color to develop evenly.
7. Finally, understand that color develops as the proteins in your body respond to the color-inducing ingredients in ESSENTIALS Foaming Sunless Tan. This response creates the notorious smell that is often associated with self-tanning products. So it’s a good idea to apply ESSENTIALS Foaming Sunless Tan at bedtime, sleep in loose fitting pajamas and then shower in the morning.
Bazar's Self-Tanner Body Application Tips:
Feet: "Keep in mind that you're trying to mimic the natural sun, so your focus should be on the top of the foot instead of the sides and ankle," says Quinn. Here's how to do it: Apply tanner to your hands and rub them together, then place your entire hand flat on the top of your foot and blend back and under the anklebone. Next, begin blending the sides, in between the toes, over the anklebones, and back toward each side of the heel. "I do a very light once-over on the heel itself, usually as my last step, just so the undertones match the rest of the body," says Quinn. "But it's extremely important to only use excess tanner from the rest of the foot for this, and not to dispense more color into your hands."
Knees and elbows: Always apply a light moisturizer to problem areas before going over with self-tanner, explains Quinn. "I apply lotion to the the rough skin under my knees before tanning and I never have a problem with color over-absorbing. I also tend to get dry skin around my ankle bones, so I'll apply a light moisturizer those areas as well."
Hands and wrists: Apply a pearl-sized amount of color to the insides of the wrists as the second to last step of your full-body tan, then rub them together to blend. "This prevents dramatic, defined borders and using a small amount of tanner allows the color to fade out into the palms, which looks much better overall," says Quinn, who follows the same procedure on the backs of her hands as the final step. "Rub them together, avoiding the fingers, then fold your hands together, and start blending the color over your fingers and around your thumb." Need to get excess tanner off your palms and fingers? "Use a damp wash cloth or Windex-soaked cotton ball."
Neck: If you want to tan your neck, but not your face, blend self-tanner up to—but not past—the jawline. "It's ok to have a slight border of tanner under the jawline, because it will look like a contoured jawbone, helping to minimize the appearance of double chins," says Quinn. To really get the contouring effect, use a cotton ball with self-tanner on it to draw two "V" shapes of shading just under the chin to either side of the neck (the trapezius muscle areas).
